Introducing the world of the Gothard Sisters

New Here?

If you have just stumbled on the Gothard Sisters and their music, I know that it can look a little daunting at first. Which video to watch? Which album to listen to first? What is a playlist?
So I have put together this little guide for you, so you can get a taste of what the Gothard Sisters are all about.  It's divided into two parts, the world of the music, and everything else.

The Music of the Gothard Sisters

The Gothard Sisters began as classical violinists, playing for tips at the local farmer’s market. Their involvement in competitive Irish dance, which culminated in qualifying for and competing at the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, four years in a row, encouraged their love of Celtic music and eventually they began playing more in more in that genre.

The very earliest recording available is Christmas Violins, which features the three violins playing together. Gradually they began incorporating more instruments and folk elements, exploring a warmer, fuller sound. This

Everything Else

In March 2020 when shows were cancelled during the sisters’ annual St. Patrick’s Day tour, the sisters took the music online and created two series of free online concerts for their fans: the Cozy Celtic Concert Series went on for 12 weeks, followed by the Hummingbird Sessions, culminating in 23 episodes total. You can watch these series now for a small rental fee here and relive that very special moment in time, plus become more familiar with the Gothard Sisters’ back catalogue.

The Gothard Sisters are not just studio musicians and recording artists, they perform live and tour frequently. If you live in or around the Pacific Northwest, make sure to catch a stop on their Celtic Christmas tour in December or the St. Patrick’s Day tour in March. Many fans attend both every year as an annual tradition. Outside of these seasonal events, check the show schedule here for upcoming concerts, follow on Bandsintown for notifications, and make sure you’re subscribed to the official email list for insider info and updates. As always, if you have attended a show live, you can leave a review here and here to encourage others to attend!

Seasonal events include an annual Fall Giveaway and Spring Giveaway, plus seasonal contests and activities for the Gothard Sisters’ fans. Check the blog, as there is always something new to explore in the world of the Gothard Sisters. Enjoy!
