After a great weekend of shows in New York at the Great American Irish Fest, we got back on the road to head to our next stop - Iowa.
The drive took several days to get from NY to IA, but it passed pleasantly while listening to lots of good music, including some new favorites like Heron Valley's first album, ROAM and We Banjo 3's new album, Haven.
We had shows every day of the festival and enjoyed doing something different for each one of them. Friday night was one of the first times we ever played our new song "Mermaids" live at a festival.
This is a giant festival and we've now been playing at it for the last 4 years. The volunteers, sound crew, and everyone working behind the scenes make it enjoyable for both the people watching and listening, but also for the bands. We're so glad to be a part of this great event in Waterloo!
signing stuff backstage - this is actually a souvenir bodhran signed by all the bands at the fest!
Throughout the weekend we also taught several ceilidh (Irish group dance) workshops. Many people learned how to do some really fun group dances even in the hot and muggy weather. If you're looking for something fun and social to do that's also a great workout, check out ceilidh dancing!
On Saturday we played on the main stage as well as teaching workshops. The sound crew and team there were amazing and we enjoyed playing a selection of songs from the new album. This festival is one of our absolute favorites and we definitely hope to be back again next year. If you would, too, pipe up in this FB discussion and let the organizers know you want us back!
Back on the road again. Next up - Ohio! Stay tuned for part 4.
