Midwest Tour - Part 2

We left off traveling from Boston - our next stop was in Utica, New York, for the Great American Irish Festival.  Thunderstorm clouds still filled the sky in every town we drove through, but the festivals are sturdy and were set to continue.

The festival went on as planned and we enjoyed playing lots of new songs and Celtic favorites as part of the stage festivities.

New York is a state we have not played in very much, so in addition to meeting lots of new people and introducing a new audience to our music, it was especially great when some of our fans from other areas showed up to see a set, having driven long hours to get there.  It's always so encouraging to see familiar faces and happy people sporting our band t shirts!

Festival season is also a special time for the bands on the circuit because it's a time when we get to meet up with our "road friends," the musicians in other bands that we see at festivals.

Great American was also especially sentimental this year because everyone is saying goodbye to headliner band The Elders from Kansas City, on their final year of touring.  Many of us (including yours truly) have been very inspired by this band, and they were welcoming and friendly towards us when we were first getting started, so it is sad to see them go.

The rain DID end up coming down, but the storm blew over and no one missed a note.
Great American Irish Festival wrapped up, and the Gothard Sisters packed up.  Time to wander on - towards Iowa!
Stay tuned for part 3.
